Addictions

How does therapy help with addictions?

Addictions typically occur when we are faced with a challenge which exceeds our ability to cope. In a non-judgmental environment, clients are encouraged to share their addictive patterns and are met with unconditional acceptance. Often, with addiction, the client keeps it a secret, creating shame, and therefore, usually a worsening of addictive behavior. As a therapist with decades of experience, I know that you, as the client knows what is healthy for you to create the life you want to live and that by using techniques, such as Motivational Interviewing, in which you explore the costs of your addiction, you will come to a decision to make a change.

Together, we will develop specific, realistic objectives for you to implement and reach your goals, while considering high-risk situations and strategies to avoid them, along with substitute behaviors.
